The Oklahoma Sooners football program is one of the most successful in college football history. The Sooners began playing football in 1895, and they quickly established themselves as one of the best teams in the country. Oklahoma won its first national championship in 1950, and the Sooners went on to win six more national championships in 1955, 1956, 1974, 1975, 1985, and 2000. Oklahoma has also been a dominant force in the Big 12 Conference. The Sooners have won 50 conference championships, which is the most of any team in the Big 12.
